Default Comp and head question

Im just stupid as hell.:o Got my new canfield 197 heads today from Jegs. BUT I order the wrong chamber size. I got 72 but whanted 64.
So the comp will be 8.9 instead of 9.7. Is it worth to mill the heads to get the right compression? Or shall I just go with the 8.9 comp.
Will I loose much power and throttle response?

Thanks

Dude! Call Jeg's and just set-up a return and be patient. "DON'T SETTLE" it's not worth it. You've worked too dang hard for your Vette and it's parts.

Talk to them and maybe you might have to eat a little restocking fee, but it'll be worth it. You don't want to pop the hood every time and say "Man if I only had gone with the smaller chambers and just waited a little longer"!!!

I did this the other day I bought some Polished aluminum valve covers for my Vette while my wife waited paitiently in the car at the Chevy dealer, BUT! I really wanted the chrome ones but it turned out they were a little more so I "settled" for the polished. When I got to the car and my wife found out she basically told me "How are you going to feel every time you pop the hood? loving wife that she is said, get this, she said "just go back in there and get the ones you want then she said I'm tired of setteling for things so go get the ones you want."

So I now posses the Chromed Aluminum Valve Covers!!! As well as many other parts for the Vette because it's "NOT WORTH SETTELING"!!!

Plus if you shave thoose bad boys and they don't work out you'll have to eat both those heads and that might not go down to easy!! KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

I hope this helps!
Thanks, Matt

The only probleme is that I live in Sweden and the cost to ship those heads over to Jegs then back to me again is over $300.

Dang! I was not privy to that. That puts a whole different twist on it.

Well is it possible to find a buyer for the heads?

If not then you could have them shaved, it's your choice to do so.

One other thing you could do is call Jeg's and let them know they shipped the wrong heads if they really are not the ones you ordered, and see what they say maybe they'll meet shipping half way.

Your Vette will like the higher compression better! There is one other thing you could try! You could go with the thinest gasket that Felpro makes to keep the compression up.

I hope this helps!
Thanks, Matt

not trying to be a smarta$$ at all but if $300 makes a difference you don't need the heads. Send then back, then instead of using a nice thick fel-pro gasket use a steel shim gasket & bring your compression up to around 10.5

The difference in horsepower between an engine with 8.9c.r and one with 9.7c.r is only about 12.

Get the right CC size. Youll wish you spent the $300 (then shave those a little bit too)when your car just doesnt make "quite" the right power.

If u r overseas than just keep those and dont mess with milling heads or anything instead install .029 head gasket to bump up a little compression might be a 2 ccomp thats an extra 5-10 hp. Tpis sells them .029 gasket. Food for thought.
