Default 4L60 Rebuild Questions

I am about to rebuild the tranny in my 93 (have a real good tech that is willing to tutor me). Stock LT-1, 4L60 tranny, 184K miles. The number stamped on the tranny case is 3YCM064B. I do have a TV cable.

When I purchased the car, the seller included a TransTec rebuild kit and torque convertor. The parts were purchased from APD Parts in Atlanta. I have used their parts in a couple of TH350's and a Ford AX4N - all with good results. The kit is for a 4L60-E (TansTec part #K77900E). APD says that the only difference in the kits for the 4L60 (part #K77900B) and the 4L60E is the valve body gaskets. The band is clearly marked 4L60E.

Only plan to drive her on weekends for the next year or so - I also got a spare LT-1 in the deal and plan to rebuild during the winter. In the interim I would like to beef the 4L60 up a wee bt - firmer shifts, etc. I have read a lot of posts that recommend the Transgo shift kit, Corvette servo, and myriads of convertors.

Any suggestions regarding:
a. using the rebuild kit (and purchasing additional parts as needed to fit the tranny)
b. using a Corvette servo, different band, stock convertor
c. other goodies that will give the stock setup a little punch..

Any advice will be sincerely appreciated.

I am not sure of the contents of that kit. I would have the following on hand:
Bushing set
Thrust washer set
Reverse piston orifice
10 pump vanes
foward sprag-29 element borg warner
lo-roller clutch(rear sprag)
Steel module
# 70 #71 and #72 selectives.
Edit: forgot to mention a new governor gear

I would recommend:
kevlar band .500 boost valve and .283 lo rev boost valve. You already should have a vette servo

Thanks Pete. I will get a list of componenets from TransTec this week. There aren't any sprags, thrust washers, or boost valves in this kit. I hope to post photos of the kit contents tonite or tomorrow (if I finish the Honey-do list in time today). Looks like I have a 2 5/8" band in the kit, but it isn't kevlar.

Did locate most of the items you mentioned online this morning. I hope to purchsae these parts locally if possible. Did notice a 13 vane high volume pump upgrade kit (comes with new pump slide). Do you recommend the hihg-volume pump upgrade?

As always, thanks for the input. Checked out Sami's short videos - looks like he's gonna raise some sand. Hope I can head up to his part of town and introduce myself sometime this month.

I never loved the idea of a 13 vane pump. Not sure why. I have heard stories about them failing and taking out a trans. The gm units are supposed to be good, but the aftermarket stuff is made in China. Per Pro-builts recomendations, I use the 10 vane. Dana knows his stuff and I trust his word.

The 93 is not electronic, so the kit might not work. I know 93's are one year wonders, that's what I was told when I had mine rebuilt a month ago.

Default Update

I came across a 4L60E out of a 94 Vette that took a bad lick to the rear. What are the pros and cons of switching from a 700R4 (4L60) to a 4L60E in my 93?

I read in another thread that S&P Electronics, Painless Wiring, and a couple of other vendors make harnesses to allow the use of the 4L60E in a 93 w/the 700R4 tailpiece. If I retrofit the harness will I be able to see/manipulate shift points, etc. when tuning?

No real pro's other than tayloring shift points. Most of the internals are the same.

Most of the trans boxes I have seen are close to a grand. They may have come down some but that would stop me from going that rout.
