Default Early-C4 interior restoration tips

I've placed some interior restoration tips at:

http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/gh86e/indexrp2.shtml

I've also added some reassembly tips to my knee-panel/bread-box removal instructions:

Good tips!

I'm going to redo my interior from the graphite/silver to black/silver, change the carpet and seats to black, and the dark graphite trim peices to black, leaving the lighter silver parts of the door and console sides.

It's the one thing I don't think I'll ever get myself to do. I'm just not a big cleaner (you should see my home office, my cubicle, my basement, ...), I'm hoping to find something I can blackmail Bob Hovey with into doing my car. If you ever see his car at a local cruise-in, you'd have no qualms about eating off anything in the engine compartment.

two-tone86:

Did the two-tones have two-tone interiors? I never noticed that. I was originally thinking of redoing a lot of my interior with glove-soft leather. Got a couple of quotes, and thought about doing it myself. But a two-tone interior done with leather in selected places would be really nice.

It seems so, I haven't seen any other 86 two-tone cars to compare mine to, but the arm rest inserts along with the glove box lid and sill pads are a much darker gray. The car itself is black on the bottom with a gray upper.

The two-tone leather would be VERY nice, but I'm going the route of cloth seats for the simple fact it gets so hot here in FL and my car is a daliy driver.

My hero, you're timing could not have been better. I'm starting the rebirth/customization of my 85 interior in two weeks when my seats from Carlisle arrive. The car is Red w/Graphite interior. I'm going with Red carpet in the front and lower cargo area, black seats, door panels, wheel well carpeting and red armrests.

Thanks for all the great info, I can't wait to get started.

Weather permitting, I'll tackle the carpeting this weekend, and will take pictures along the way. I bought my carpet from http://www.1aauto.com. They resell ACC's carpet, which is the manufacturer most resellers use.

1AAuto says the carpet is a 'Custom Comfort' weave - denser than the original C4 carpeting. And it is. It should wear better, and they claim it fades less. I got it with the Mass backing. These are pretty thick & heavy carpet pieces. The carpeting I took out of the car is thin & plastic-backed.

I don't know if you get the 'Custom Comfort' material when you order C4 carpets through TLD (www.tld-corvette.com) or other places. But I'm glad I got it - I never liked the cheap-looking carpeting originally in C4's. This stuff looks better, although still nothing like the quality you find in contemporary luxury cars.

One problem may be the thickness. The ACC carpets are molded, which will help. But I intend on putting down a few layers of sound deadener first, followed by the thick sound padding that was already in the car, then these new carpets. Hope it all fits. I'll post a link to pictures when finished.
