Default Tach Wackiness

Hey guys,

My tach is now going wild on me above 4k. Its exactly like what happened when you first install an MSD and don't jump the tach filter. But my splice around the tach filter is still there so I'm kind of lost as to what is going on. If anybody has some advice I'd like to hear it. I can install a second splice around the tach filter just to be sure, but if there is any possible other explinations I'd love to hear them. thanks.

I to am experiencing the same problem - i know nothing about a tach filter splice though?

Tach operates like normal - If im WOT, it jumps around and will end up at 0rpm's before long. I will keep an eye on this thread..

mn, I'm not sure what you're running, so this may not pertain..then again. I'm talking with another member with a tach problem, and I'm kinda quoting Gordon Killebrew, essentially he says most of our tach problems come from water in the bulkhead connection (firewall) next to the steering column, tachs on the bottom row...Gordon says water gets in, cause the General didn't seal the connection, and some times the cowl drip tube is even directed at it. Anyhow, Gordon says to pull the connection and look for a greenish/whiteish look-water, he says to just blow it out and reconnect-leave the blackish grease in there, it's an anti corrosive-after you hook the connection back up he says to seal the top and sides.

Rich,

thanks for the advice. I did find the problem though. Even though I double checked my filter bypass that I installed when I did my MSD and it still looked just fine, but there was something wrong with it. I installed a second filter bypass today after work and it took the problem away.

I am the other member that Rick was talking to about the Tach problem. I took the plug loose from the bulkhead today and tried to clean the connections, but still no fix. Would someone explain to me the "tach filter bypass"? Would that remedy my problem with my tach? I have a 1990 Auto and my tach is off by about 300%. At idle, 700 RPM's my tach reads 2400 RPM's. Thanks for any help & thatnks to Rick for leading me thus far!
