Default 1996 Automatic Running Hot!!

Hey everyone,

My 96 Vette has always run at 198 degrees (digital reading not needle) on average. Last year had the radiator changed due to high temps, fixed it....then, about 2 weeks ago it started running up to 220. Changed the thermostat and it has been running around 198 at times, then it goes up to 208 and stays there....I'm wondering, since it is running exactly 10 degrees higher, is it possible the thermostat is set to open 10 degrees later then the first one?......the old one says 180 on it...the new one is an ac delco the chevy dealership gave me....or do you think it is not thermostat related...?

Thx, Pete
PS...two things that may or may not make a diff
1. Last year when the radiator was replaced, the mech put the "green" antifreeze in, I told him it had to be "orange"...she said he drained it, flushed it and replaced it with the orange.

and

2. I live in Phoenix and the temp here is 110-113 daily.

Those are good coolant temps. It is possible you got a 195* stock thermostat. Those are about what my 95 temps run with a 180*. If it idles for any amount of time the temps rise until the fans kick in. 95 and 96 is when they put Dexcool in the radiators. I have heard to stick with that and not use the green coolant. The outside temp has some affect on engine temp but not much.
