I bought a replacement mast from Ebay (it might even have been the same company) and I had no problems. The instructions were pretty good but make sure it comes with the little gizmo you need to unscrew the nut that retains the mast.
I would review the price with GM Parts Direct and see if there is a difference in the prices of the two. I can tell you from personal experiece that changing out the mast with the plastic ribbon intact is a piece of cake. However, if the ribbon breaks and part of the ribbon is left inside the motor unit, the cake is not good and is not very sweet. Watch your bargains .
I bought my mast off Ebay for around 20 bucks and it works great about 95% of the time. Other times it get's stuck/want go all the way down. I don't know if it's the bugs that's on the antenna, if it's maybe loose or not enough lube. But then again the lube works for about a month till she's dry.
I recently replaced the mast and tube (I bought OEM from a private seller on eBay) for about $35. My experiences....you have to split the electric motor, not a big job, but if it hasn't been worked on before, you have to drill out the rivets and replace them with either the same rivets or small bolts, make sure you clean the dried out guck from your gears, inspect that they are not worn excessively, re-lube thoroughly, clean up the electrical, inspect brushes, etc put the metal and non-metal bushings back in the same locations you found them (I have instructions on that part somewhere, if you're not sure), reseal the motor with RTV and bench test thoroughly before you reinstall the beast. The hardest part for me was getting the rubber gromet back in the hole where the wires go inside the body. It works like a charm now.
Works Great! I had to remove it and take it apart to get the old pieces out . I cleaned it up inside and re-lubed with white lithium Grease. I used little self tapper screws to seal it back up. Pretty Simple and time consuming since I detailed that area since it was apart. Looks and works awesome
The grommet was a pain in the ***. I lubed it too and it slid right into the hole talk about a cheap date
