Default Bypassing the power steering...

I know my ps is going south, slowly, day after day, everyday. It seems to leak when parked. Today, I took it for a test drive from Orlando to hang out with some of my old friends and it started groaning when you turn the wheel. I got a little scared, but not the type of scared like it was gonna leave me stranded. I'm considering bypassing this for the time being, until I get the dough to fix it. Could I simply take off the pulley and run a shorter belt? Is there anyone of you running without powersteering in your C4? I guess I'm pretty strong, I can handle turning a rock hard steering wheel for awhile...

Before you go to that extreme, I recall a discussion about a
Lucas product. Members reporting using it with satisfaction
to solve rack seal problems. A fix that prolongs the date
when you'll ultimately need to repair/replace the rack - still
beats manual. A search will bring back the threads.

If the pump is at fault, TurnOne is well-regarded by LTx
folks who have had them modify their pumps for racing
purposes. Inexpensive for the pump mod, probably less for
a simple exchange.
