I have one in my '90, the Thermomaster and it seems to be a good piece for me for "NOW" eventually I will need a custom tuned chip for max performance. There are supporting members here that burn chips(i.e.- PCM for less and ski_down_it) A lot of guys will take it from here to help you decide which way to go and with the results they have had.

Take it away!

Thanks, Matt

I had a hypertech when I first got the car. I did not get better gas milage. It did make it shift a little harder and at a higher rpm. If used with the 160 thermostat the car will run cooler. For the price I dont think that it is worth it. If you already have a laptop you can buy a cable, and have a custom tune emailed for less money. Plus you can do diagnostics or tune it your self if you ever want to. Many more options going that route and more power.

Give PCMFORLESS a call. The link is listed below. They also sell the cable. I would download the shareware/trial versions of Datamaster TTS and Tuner Cat just to get an idea of what else can be done later on. Also search through the Scan and Tune section here on the C4 forum.

There IS NO custom tune using the hypertech. Just whatever is preloaded per the manufacturer. You do have options to turn off and on some items but not nearly as extensive as a fully custom programmable tune. For a custom tune you would need a company like the above list rick has provided.
