I am switching out my stock 350 in the 84 for a 383 and was considering an oversized oil pan.
Has anyone switched out thier stock oil pan for a 7qt oil pan. I was wondering if you had any clearance problems and if you have pictures of the one you used.
I have a Canton roadrace pan (6qt pan plus 1 in the filter = 7qt system).
If you go to canton's website, they list them there. The pre-86 pan is different because of the driver's side dipstick, but I think they have it for both.
It's a very nice pan -- no fitment problems, but I installed it with the engine out. I have heard of others installing it with the engine in the car, but not a fun job.
Best bang for the buck is the summit kit pans they sell. They are actually moroso pans, 7qt, with a melling pump (they say summit, but they are melling pumps with summit welding the pickup on, which you want). Entire setup is ~180 dollars.....can't beat it and has good oil control. actually better than my 400+ dollar milodon believe it or not. Just put one back on my car for ease of removal etc.
