Default '86 Vette Convertible Top problem

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...2/DCP_0287.jpg

Hey Guys,

Well, I'm hoping you are all able to see the picture of my convertible top, and where I am having the problem.

What happened, is after a year of looking good...as you can see...the top has literally come unglued.

This was done by a shop that has since gone out of business.

To me, it appears as though the material that wraps around the frame was cut too short.

Suggestions please.

Thank you!!

The material is cut correctly. You can reglue it to the frame using ordinary contact cement, which is what the factory uses.

Since that is not a factory top cover, it may fit a little differently, but it looks that you still have enough to glue it back. You may need to lower the #4 bow slats just a tad to releive some of the pressure so it won't pull loose again.
There is a special 3M glue that was used at the factory, but i cannot remember the number of it. The years will do that to ya!
Perhaps you could contact 3M and find out what the best product for that is today (since the C4 tops havent been produced in ten years, they likely have something now that will hold better). I dont know about using contact cement, it may work, but like most super glues, it may not be water resistant, and may loosen again, then again-it may work fine- just dont get it on your paint!
hope this helps
