Hello friends
Hey last weekend I was driving my 84, and all of a sudden the volts for my battery started to jump around, it would read 11.2 then go up to 14.5 then maybe go to 13.8 ,and all over the place,never the same number.Then it seemed my lights were started to go dim also, so the question is my alternater going #%^*(^& ????

Short answer: YES
Diode is likely going bad, replace alternater after doing a few simple checks:
1 Are battery cables clean and TIGHT
2 Put a load test on battery, Advance Auto will do this free, but don't buy anything there
If cables are OK and Battery checks out, proceed to ALTERNATER
These things are tough on alternaters, too much heat under the hood. Alternater gets little or no airflow...none at idle
When alternater goes, car will quit. Had it happen in the middle of an intersection
Getting ready to install my second one in six months
NAPA has two price/quality levels...others probably do!

Yes, it is probably the Alternator. Just replaced mine last week and it was doing the same as you describe, finally the voltage gauge was dropping to 11 the ten volts, with the lights and AC on the battery light came on. so I turned the accessories off, to get home. Bought one from DEALER 105 amp remanufactured job. There is $40 core charge. This is my second one in 110K miles.
