Default Ecm Removal

OK I have tried this in the scan section and not getting any hits so I will try it here . Can anybody tell me if there is an easy way to get the EMC on a 87' convertable . We are having a heck of a time to reach it and just can't seem to find all the bolts/screws that hold the panels in place . We have tried to use the manuals and not much help there. Thanks wro

crawl under the passengers side of the dash... look up and you will see a white piece of plastic, with 2 bolts. Remove said bolts, ECM will pull out.

Which manual are you using?

Remove the pass. hush panel screws and pull the panel down, you'll have to look directly up, its mounted at 90 degrees to the floor, 2 10mm bolts, and an extension or two for your wratchet.

Then pull the ECM down gently, it slides straight down.

We are using the factory 87' manual along with a parts cd disc and we just can't seem to find the screws on the lower carpeted panel we have gotten the upper piece out where the crash pad is and the lower plastic unit also, we can see the ECM but still looking for more connectors. Thanks for the input will just keep looking! WRO

You take apart the plastic piece with the floor light on the passenger side only. Then crawl under and look up with a flashlight. You will need to move some cables around most likely. You'll see it. Looks like a box a little larger than a computer CD drive. A bolt on each end. Get those with a long extension.

You do not remove the carpeted panel!!! You dont remove the dash or the breadbox either, it all comes out from below.

You remove the black hush panel thats above the passenger side footwell, there are 3 small screws if memory serves. Then you arrange yourself so that your head is in that footwell and your feet are in the air, and you'll see the 2 bolts holding in the ECM.

Default Thank You

OK gang thanks for the reply and the no how The trick is as you said is laying on your back in the footwell. I had to have my son assist for my damn no line bifocals weren't worth a crap(hell to get older). It took no time to pop it out after we dropped the plastic panel and just a couple of extensions on the ratchet. Now its off to PCMforLESS.
Again a big thank you! WRO
