first off, take the car to autozone... they can scan for codes, then we will be 100% what code you are getting.

secondly, lose the +4s... get NGK.

I HATE with a passion the +4s. The only thing I hate more are the AC Delco Platinums. They have these little platinum pucks on the ground strap, after about 40k miles, the pucks have either fallen or burned off. For example, on the LT1, the gap will go from .050 (good, stock) to .065 (not good).

Hense, a good .035 gap on your L98, would jump to .050. Again, bad.

NGK. Get them. Embrace them.

If the SES light does come on but goes off there is a problem somewhere. Not always will it show a code if it is intermittant. You can take it to Autozone and have them retrieve the code but will be done in the same way as explained in the other thread.

also on the NGK plugs. I have used them in all my vehicles and have had good results. I even used them in my ATV's. I also see a good many members here use them.

When you do get the code(s), post them and troubleshooting them should be a problem. There are many things it could be causing the condition you describe and all we can do is guess. A real time scan will show you the problem right away, though you might have difficulty finding someone to do it.

Autozone carries the Delco #5's.

Autozone has a scan tool for 96 and up OBDII systems, but they can also use a code key, that they should have, or show you how to use the paperclip and even do it for you on the OBDI.

C4driver99,

The comment about the excess oil on the K&N concerns me, are you sure there's no oil residue on the MAF wire? That's the first thing I see. Also, I'm not clear on what you mean by the code is not correct when you did the paper clip trick? Did you try disconnecting the battery to clear the codes stored, then running the car to see what new codes were set? Worse case scenario, you could go but one of the cheap ($19.99) code readers for the car.

Well from what I see here, C4driver99 you need to get you hands on the car and start doing some troubleshooting. We are just spinning our wheel, so to speak, on all this troll stuff. If a code does exist you need to get it or find a place that can. The Chevy dealer can try to retreive code but for a price and Autozone will do it for free. Just tell them If someone could show you how to do it. If they don't know, they shouldn't be working at an autoparts store. You will also need to invest in a FSM (factory service manual). I got mine off ebay for $40, helms has them for about $100 , and you might find one in the parts/wanted section. Whenever I asked for help, I was right on top of it trying what the forum member stated.

I came in late on your last thread and it was already locked. In my 1988, I went from stock to a 160 degree thermostat and lost an immediate 2 mpg on highway and stop and go. This is not everything with your car but could be part of it

Also an oily air filter sounds like an invitation for trouble by "mist-ing" into the airflow sensors. Oil does not evaporate it just gets gritty as it collects dust.

Damn, I always thought a "troll" was a disagreable little ugly creature that lived under bridges and in thick forests.

two things I'd try, first pull the K&N filter, second, replace the 02.

RRT. Very good, but not perfect. You missed a couple of capitalizations. My first thoughts on the original question (because I had the same problem) was dragging brakes and shot FPR. I had both replaced at the same time, so variables were not controlled. Anyway, gas mileage and throttle response wer imedatly impruuved.

Before any of you ask why some responses are missing, let me just say this: Don't ask, just move on. If you don't have anything constructive to add, then don't reply.

Also for some of you, there is this new invention the forum had about 5 years ago, it's called the ignore list. Use it, know it,love it.

Several people who have responded in this thread have has numerous complaints against them. The only reason I haven't done anything is because they are very valuable to the tech sections.

If anyone feels they need to respond to my reply, do so in a PM. Let's get this thread back on track and keep it there.

One more thing, Troll Hunters usually get in more trouble than trolls.
