Default Header wrap??

Trying to reduce engine heat and keep some components from faulting out as often like alt and starter. Is header wrap a good idea? Seems like it should reduce underhood temps but what if somethign flammable got on it would it catch and take the car down?

header wrap is fire resistant... it's made of like nomex or something. used to be asbestos, but you know how popular that stuff is now...

get good quality, NHRA approved stuff and all should be fine.

Also consider Jet-Hot coating.

I wouldnt use it because it tends to make any header coating flake off eventually and rust can occur beneath it easier. A ceramic coating in and out from Jet-Hot would be the best choice.

On a side note... If it were to go on stainless headers (i.e SW) would this be the better choice (cost wise). And any idea how much cooler with the wrap? I will be getting SWs as soon as I can and was considering wrapping them.

Not a great idea. The wrap is "fireproof" but not so the oil that often gets soaked in over the years. I know of no header company that endorses the wrap and I DO know of several that will void any sort of warranty, if it is used. Individual, such as one for the starter, heat shields, and the aforementioned ceramic coatings are better ideas.
