Newby here...
I started her last night and let her idle and she did fine. I let her temp get to about 220. Everything ok. So I took a short hop to the library and while there remembered that each time problems occurred was the second or later start. Started and drove home no problems. Temp never exceeded 225. At home I allowed her to idle and at about 228 she surged and returned to normal. At 230 the fan cut on. ok! Temp droped back to 2+mid teens. Fan went off. ok! Temp climbed up again and around 228 surge occured again. Still it didn't cut off. Fan repeated its performance again. Drove it a bit but no problems. It was a lo
t cooler last night than it was both days that it died. Looking over various posts on this site I am concerned that the OPTI that was recently replaced by the former owner just MAY not be worth a crap when the temperature climbs. I don't trust it so I'll probably let it sit at idle on the next hot day and see what happens.Looking it over I found a couple of spliced leads to various sensors, one near the water pump. Being and old tube guitar amp jockey I REALLY was unimpressed with the work that I saw. Gogs of electical tape wound around a splice. I OBVIOUSLY am going to have to take a trip thru this young lady and check her out.
This ain't the way I envisioned my first couple of weeks with my 'vette!
