pilot bushings are supposed to be ''oilite bronze''...the oil is in the metal(how do they do that--at least 50 yr old technology and i have no idea)...i put just a lite wipe of chassis grease on both the trans input shaft and the pilot bearing anyway--not a lot cause the clutch face would get unhappy if it tasted any.
i chamfer (taper) the leading edge of the new bushng about 1/8'' x 10 degrees on the bench grinder and use an old tranny input shaft as a driver to be sure the i.d. stays big enuf...don't beat on it hard, if it puts up a fuss you're not lined up straight
