Default Similar problem, won't start when hot.

OK, almost the same problem as the '89 only I've got an '87. 51,000 miles, car starts right up cold, runs real strong. After shutting down it will crank for about 10-15 seconds and finally starts after pumping the pedal. There was no sign of anything happening before this began, it just happened one day. The engine is completely stock, no modifications, auto. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may want to have you ignition module tested as well....it's free.

Sounds more like leaky injectors. Pumping the pedal wouldn't cause an electrical issue (ign. module) to perform. Time for a fuel pressure test.

What are the problems you are having with your '89? You need air, fuel, spark, and compression, all in the proper amount at the right time? What is out of order? Checking the ignition module will never hurt, but it isn't likely to help, if yours is a fuel problem.

RACE ON!!!

PS. Pumping the pedal shouldn't do anything, with EFI.

The wifes 87 had this problem... found it to be the fuel pump relay.

Also, a weak MAF will cause this... test them both.

Pumping the pedal won't as CFI-EFI stated, but, holding the pedal down while cranking will throw the computer into "flood mode" which should allow the engine to start...if, the problem is flooding caused by leaky injector(s).
