I am thinking of getting headers for my, for the moment stock L98. I am planning on building me a 383 with superram and if I can afford I will put on a supercharger as well.
Which headers should I get? I was thinking of Lingenfelter. What is the limitation of how much hp that they can handle?
Ecklers tells me that the Lingenfelter headers are cermanic covered,
Lingenfelter tells me that the ceramic covered headers are not available
anymore, that they are stainless steel 304.
Do you know anything about this?
just installed the tpis coated long tube headers on my 91 with the matching front y pipe and free flow converter, was very impressed with the fit and the seat of the paints feel. these headers will perform well throughout the hp range you are planning. i too will be supercharging the car soon and have no worry that these headerw will perform. give them a try, they really fit and you use your stock hardware except for the replacing of the erg tube, need an 86 model. you will be satisfied.
I'd stay away from the LPE headers. Plugs are too hard to change and the coating seems to be poot in some cases. I have the TPIS and they are better. I know because I used to have LPE.
I have Hooker Headers.. i need to send them out for coating hopefully this year.. I am very happy with the set I have.. plug access is easy and my starter fits...
hookers get overlooked alot because of theyre price, I just put a set on(2149-coated&1"3/4)they fit great , quality&plug access very good, best deal goin imho.. :D :D
Are Hooker ceramic coated or not? And is that of importance? What are the benefits of the coating?

Are they expensive or cheap compared to the other brands?
The Hookers should run about $450.00 but you have to fab thr front y pipe of buy the hooker y pipe for about another $150.00. Get the coated headers, Hooker offers non coated, but they all rust up unless you get the coated units.
Coating on the headers serves twofold- prevents rust from building up and it allows the heat to be exhausted through the header pipe instead of your engine compartment. Hope this helps. With the coating there will still be heat, but just not as much.
If I had to do it over again, I'd go with TPIS Long Tubes. LPE's are good..but changing plugs is a major ordeal. I've been told by many a tps header owner..you can change plugs in 15 minutes. Other than that. My LPE's have been leak free and perform well.
