Default Superram install results/knocking issue

I've been fighting knocking issue ever since I installed superram.
I had custom tune by Alvin ( PCMforless ) and engine runs good
except I get a lot of knocking. Most of knocking is on deceleration
between 1700 - 2200 rpm and on hard acceleration ( also in low but
sometimes in middle rpm range ).

How could I determine if it's real or false knocking?

I'm not sure if knocking ( spark retard )is main problem but something
is killing low- middle end power. I must say that so far I'm not satisfied
with the results. Only thing that I gained with superram is higher revs
but with no effect on ET's.

What could be the reason for this poor performance?

I dynoed car before superram and result was 338Hp & 387ftlbs on engine.
I was pleased with numbers since almost stock TPI was still
on engine but I expected to see 380-400 crank with all mods that
I've done before but from what I can feel it's nowhere near that.

All mods are in my sig + superram and #24 injectors.

The bolts that hold the runners to the base manifold are often too long, and bottom out before tightening the runner. If this happens, intake will leak and run lean. Add this to your list of things to check.

Running a PCV on passenger side? If so, check for oil fouling #2&4 cylinder.

Good luck,
Dave

What is really unusual is the spark knocking didn't start to happen until the 3-4th email tune revision with no changes to the timing or wide open throttle fueling.

I've been seeing alot of flywheels, balancers, and flexplates cracking or otherwise just going bad causing the same thing lately. Any chance that you can actually hear a mechanical knocking sound anywhere? Valves need to be re-adjusted?

If all else, I can lock out the knock sensor and let you take it for a ride. If you hear REAL ping get out of it and let me know.. If the car feels nice and smooth we know that the knock retard is fake. BTW.. there isn't any problem with running without a knock sensor if you know what pingning sounds like.. Carbed cars never had it and ford didn't start using them until 96.

That could be a good way to see if it's real or false knock but I'm afraid
that I won't be able to hear knocking because I have REALLY LOUD
exhaust system. What I'm sure of, is that while crusing at 1500 - 2200
rpm's valvetrain ( I think RR's ) make some noise, like they are loose,
and it's been like that since I installed RR's. I've adjusted them hot,
cold, allways the same.
Alvin, I still didn't log anything with latest tune so I'll get back to you
when I do that.

I've checked for vacuum leaks and everything looks O.K.
I'll check for oil fouling that hookedup said.

I once had a false KNOCK sound on my El Camino and it turned out to be the Torque Converter. It was a dead on sound that transferred right into the engine. A mechanic(at this time I was young and didn't know too much better!) helped me to determine this and sure enough it was the Torque Converter it was starting to come apart inside!

Don't know if this helps but it is possible!(Take a meatal rod and or a mechanics stethescope and check it out!) This certainly would alert your knock senser being that it is close by!

Thanks,Matt
