Default Lowering ?

I just picked up a '96 which is a z51 car that looks high to me. My question is should I lower it or leave it alone? Would 1 inch affect it too much? Rides good right now, so wanted to hear from others.

these cars look good lowered 1". Just be careful driving over large bumps or off-camber angles... My vote is to lower.

It WILL adversely affect ride quality, if you do tons of around town driving you might think hard about it.

THAT being said, DO IT.

In my opinion, nothing looks better than a nicely lowered C4. The car looks so different

Well, you can't say you weren't warned. The good news is, it's reversible! If you don't like it, it's up to you to return it to what it was. It's not like throwing a part away or boring something out. So, whatcha gonna do?

Agreed, but it is an enormous amount of work to lower the front, the back is easy.

RUKWKR that is probably the nicest car I have seen yet. Truely smooth. Makes me want to drop mine real soon. I did my last vette which was a '92 with regular susp., but only did the rear. I like the ride I have now, but looks too high. Did you just get the kit they have at like Ecklers or something else? Is yours also a z51 car?

No question about it. And a lot of pieces, too. Not to mention all the driveways you can't go up any more.... I like yours, howver, very much. I just don't think it's for me and my car. But it sure is good to see one!!!

Let me know if you want to lower it. I have a step by step with pitcures in a MS word format that I made up two years ago. I'll email it to you if you want it.

Oh and yes, lower it...

fsr402, Yes if you could please e-mail me the instructions. Was thinking of having a shop do the front, but the cost was crazy and i have the tools and usually do my own work anyway. which kit would you advise to get the job done? my e-mail is wkbrd1@aol.com. Thanks in advance.

It was like that when I got the car but I suspect they used one of the typical kits. Mine is not a Z51, base suspension. Which is a GOOD thing if you are going to lower because of the softer springs. At least that is what I tell myself when the car knocks my fillings out.

BTW I think this is one of the foremost "well while I'm in there jobs"

There is so much crap you have to take off if your car has a lot of miles you should think about doing ball joints, bushings, etc.

Yes and no. If you have a lot of miles on her and want it to ride and handle better this IS a good time to do it. But you really don't have to remove much at all to lower the car. You will spend a few hours on the front but it's not bad. It took me a weekend to do mine and I spent more time cleaning things up then I did doing the job.

I can email them out tonight when I get home. I don't have the file here at work. I have a few PM's and emails about this. I should upload the file to the web and just put a link in my sig for it.

Oh and as for the parts. It's just a simple kit from any of the corvettr parts mags that I'm sure we all get. It's two wedges and two longer bolts.

Just lower it...they look sooooooo much better. Have had mine lowered about 2 months (w/ Z51) and it rocks. The ride is not pleasant at times depending on the road, but all in all, I will lower any vette I own Just make sure you get your alignment!!
