Default xpipe to replace factory resonator

I am fixing to put cut the mufflers off my lt1 and put straight pipe in. I had a few mention an xpipe that will replace the factory resonator that would help with power and clean up the drone. Where is the best place to find one?

The drone will get worse if you replace the resonator with an X-pipe.

Whynot try an X pipe right after the resonator and then just have a muffler shop weld the stock tips to the straight pipes.

Actually the x-pipe does reduce the drone and lessens the harshness of the overall sound. It is a lot quieter with the x-pipe in place of the resonator. It has a higher softer pitch to it also. Thats the setup I have. Cutting the mufflers off is what caused the drone so it will still be there just not as loud. Hope that helps.

You're going with straight pipes in place of the mufflers and removing the resonator?? The LT1 cats will do little to reduce exhaust noise so you basically will wind up with a unmuffled system.

As far as an X-pipe, a good muffler shop should be able to build one for you so that it fits on the factory pipes.

The noise police are going to love you. I'll bet that at anything above an idle, you will not be able to hear yourself think inside the car.

It's not as bad as you think it would be. I thought it would be too loud also. I was wrong. I've heard other systems with flowmasters that are worse. I do like loud though. If I drove a cadillac I wouldnt do it. Next to go are the cats with addition of headders. Now that should be LOUD! It's all a matter of taste. But the x-pipe will not increase the volume.

My drone with the Borla Mufflers became less with the Xpipe, when I replaced the resonator with it.

I have flowmaster 50 series, 3 chambers and left the resonator in. The drone is noticable at 1200-2000rpms, but not too loud. Sound is great, but it gets quieter at higher rpms, or maybe the overall engine roar is drowning out the resonance? Anyway, very pleased with the sound. I was considering the x-pipe too, so I am real curious as to what the x-pipe will do to the resonance. Is there added power benefit? Otherwise, what is the benefit of the x-pipe?

An H-pipe would work in place of the resonator also. They aren't as good as X-pipes but its easier and cheaper.

My (decidedly un-expert) understanding is that the prime purpose of the X pipe is to assist with scavanging the opposite bank of cylinder exhaust pulses in the same way a collector helps in scavanging the exhaust pulses in the bank of primaries that collect into it.

The X pipe works best when placed where the exhaust temp is highest within the exhaust system itself (just aft of the collectors).

I'm sure that all of the experts will chime in here momentarily to correct me

I put an X pipe in my 95 , hoping to lessen the drone. It already had the rosenator removeed when I got it, and the drone was quite noticeable. When I put the X pipe in, it became unbearable in the cabin. You couldn't hear yourself think for that rosenance.
I took the whole thing out and put in a Force II cat back just so I could stay in the car for more than thirty minutes.

You are the first I have heard say that. Maybe there was something wrong with the install.

(edit) Okay it seems this topic has been debated many times before. Do a search for x-pipe in the title and you will come up with a bunch of info. My vote says go for it but read up on the proper placement.
