Default Coolant Overflow..Stuck at work?!?

Hey guys. So I finished my cam install yesterday. I drove the car around the block a couple times not really getting on it bad or nothing. No leaks, More get up and go, All the good stuff. I initially put about 3.5 gallons of water/ coolant in the car since it was drained. I woke up this morning before work and the white plastic tank in the far right bumper corner....overflow tank?....was completely empty. So I added another gallon or so of coolant to get it to where it needed to be then left for work. I drove to work just fine...the temp was normal...low driving around and sitting in traffic about 120-130. When I finally park at work and get out of my car immediately I could smell and see a mixture or water/orange coolant all over the ground. I open the hood and find that the white plastic tank in the front right corner is boiling and just coolant flow out of the black plastic cap all over the floor. Do to my temperatures falling while driving to work I think both of my fans are kicking in. Im going to let the engine cool down and check that a little later. I also am guessing maybe a stuck thermostat.

I am wondering if you guys have any input? Also, could it possibly be that I have too much coolant in the system and its just flowing back into that tank and out? I just need to know if I will also make it home okay....about 23 miles. Thanks guys.

I don't have an LT, but don't you have to pressure bleed that puppy after you open up the cooling system?

You need to bleed your coolant system. Refill the system until it is full. Place a rag around the bleed screws, then open them up until coolants weeps out to bleed off the excess air. Don't let any coolant get on your Optispark.

Keep adding coolant daily to your lower tank until it reads "full cold" once the engine has cooled off and you should be fine.

Where can I find the bleed screws? Are these the screws on the water pump?

Nevermind...I found where it is on the thermostat housing. On the passenger side, front...slotted screw. I will try that. Thanks guys.

This picture will give you an approximation. One is on the water pump and the other is on the throttle body housing, I believe.

They changed locations over the years the LT1 was produced. I believe your owner's manual details the bleed screw procedure and locations, too.

Caution They are made of brass and are easily damaged. Be sure your screwdriver fits properly.

Just curious to see if that works for you , because I have something like that as well. But it's on a L98 , I was wondering what the heck was going on there.

I'm not going to be able to get to it until this weekend. I will let everyone know the outcome and the solution.

Do you have a service manual? The Service manual gives a nice section on the proper ways to refill coolent in the car. Talks about the burp lines, where to add and how much, etc

The service manual procedure tells you to add coolent with the motor running and let the coolet suck its way through the motor. One thing thats nice about an electric wp is you can do this process w/o the engine running. Just turn on the electric wp and start adding!
