After getting my hi-flo water pump and 160 stat changed out today, along with a chip, fuel filter, vavle cover gaskets, etc, I finally moved on to the ticking noise I had. I was told to place a screwdriver up against the valve covers and my ear, then against the injectors, on the chance it was a noisy injector. Turns out it is, my #3 and #7 injectors are EXTREMELY noisy compared to all the others. It was quite a revelation after all I thought it was a stuck lifter. So the question is, I will probably go to SVO 24# injectors because they are far more affordable, but what else will I need to change to run them? I've heard stories about fuel pressure and such, but I need specifics.
1) Stick them in and let the computer compensate. This will get you by but is not a very good option and will lead to a poor running car.
2) Stick them in and use an AFPR to turn the pressure down low enough so they match the size of your stock injectors. Problem is as you turn down the pressure you get poorer atomization of the fuel mixture, which will have a negative effect on power, mileage, and emissions.
3) Stick them in and get a chip programmed for the correct injector size/program them yourself (get a chip burner/tunercat). This is the best way to do it, and the "correct" way.
Or you can send your stock injectors to Rich at Cruzinperformance. He reconditions and flow tests em for $80/set with 2 day in shop time. His link is on my site.
