I put a new timing chain , ignition coil, wires, plugs, dist, and injectors and this car is doing the same thing. It backfires when trying to start it, but it still want start. Please Please Please help me get this car started. If anyone know what the problem could be please let me know. Or just have some idea.
It sounds like you had this problem before you did all of this. If that's the case, did you check the ignition module (next to the coil)? They'll cause weird timing problems.
One of the things you did not change is the ignition module. This is the little black module that is bolted to the coil bracket.
If the problem was there before you installed the parts and is still there now, this can cause the problem you describe.
Also check the wireing connector on the passenger side if the manifold between the injectors for corrosion as an intermittant connection here can also cause irratic fireing.
I am sure timing gears are aligned correctly. I aligned them dot to dot before taking chain off. How do you check timing on lt1 with a timing light. Maybe I looked over the markings, but I did not notice any. I will run a compression test Saturday. I forgot to mention that I have replace the ign. module. I also didn't mention that the distributor was order off of e-bay. Do you think this would be the problem? My old dist. would allow the car to start if I continue to crank on it. The difference with the 2 dist. , was that the one from e-bay would backfire through intake. My dist. would backfire through the intake and give a hard kick back. When I say kick back, If you have ever had a old dist. car that was advance to high, it would kick back and sometime brake the starter housing. This is what my old dist. was doing. Sorry so long but I really need this car running. Thanks for all the input. I will make the other checks and let you guys know. Thanks a million icantdr55.
