Hi guys...my ABS has gone absolutly crazy. Sitting at a stoplight, it will kick the pedal back while my foot is on it (automatic transmission). Also, it will make a whirring noise from the rear and kick on when I am not sliding at all...usually while coming to a stop with 15 or 10 miles an hour left untill zero (coming to a stoplight). I have the brake light and Anti lock light illuminated on the message center. I have no use for the ABS, and buy cars without it because I do not like it. How can I disable it? Thanks
He has an '86. I agree yank the fuse if you are having issues, until they can be fixed properly.
Not to steal your thread, but similar:
I have an '87 that the ABS light stays lit (most of the time). Not really sure what is going on. Not sure if the ABS even still works. Brakes work great!
Ok, I didnt realize I could just pull the fuse. Thats fine with me. Just out of curiosity...what could cause it to be doing that? Probably the ABS sensor?

Probably one of the 4. There is a sensor in each wheel knuckle. It is held in by a machine screw with a 10mm head. If you remove the sensors you will find that they are essentially powerful magnets. The area where they operate is open to the outside air and road debris is attracted to the powerful magnetic field of the sensors. Remove each one and clean with WD-40. Put a lite coat of anti-seize on the sensor sides and the hold down bracket before replacing the steel sensors back in the aluminum wheel knuckles. Usually this resolves the problem. It could also be the wiring or the ABS relays, but cleaning the sensors is easy and cheap.
Sounds like your ABS module is sensing wheel speed variation, commanding pump on and isolating a particular wheel brake circuit. I'd definitely start simple, clean and inspect all sensors.
Last time I had the wheel off, there was a little magnetic thing that was absoluty covered in brake dust that was magneticly attached. Me, being stupid, just left it as it was. An ABS sensor covered in brake dust particles would cause it to malfunction?
I have cleaned my sensors in the past. They were not really dirty. Anyone jnow why the ABS light just stays illuminated? It was intermittant at first, but today it just stays lit (very rarely goes out, and not for very long).
TIA,
Aaron

I've had that problem in the past. In my case, it was caused by patina on the control relay. I've also had patina on the fuse itself, causing the light to stay on. Look at the fuse first (easier to get to!), if it has a coating of milky white oxidation on it, clean it off and try again. If still on, go behind the drivers seat (I have a vert), remove the speaker cover, peel back the carpet, remove the speaker and plate it's mounted on, look down into the mysterious ABS Module cavity...find the relay, pull it out, and check that for patina. Clean & replace.
If you can't hear the ABS cycling when you turn the car on, it may also be that relay.
