Idle Speed
I am a newbie rebuilding a '96 CE LT1 Coupe. At present it is not streetable, so I can't just run it down to the nearest shop. The engine idle is way high, like over 1000 rpm. I can manually slow it down at the throttle body by rotating the cable connection but it doesn't hold. I have read several articles (here) that suggest that the only way to reset the idle speed on the late C4 is to replace the IAC. Is this correct? What are other options?

If you can manually drop the idle, you probably have a bind in the throttle shaft, or possibly a miss-adjusted throttle cable or cruise control cable. Disconnect the throtle cable from the throttle body, clean and oil the shaft, and see if it idles okay with out the cables.

I disconnected the throttle cable at the throttle body and the idle went down. When I took the cover off the ABS I saw that the cruise control cable retainer had slipped out of its slot when I previously replaced the throttle cable. Fixed that and idle is now correct!
