i just came from a long road trip--140 miles..had on crusie most of the way at 70..
on the way back my SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT came on
my fuel pressure was 40 fuel temp 211coolant around 200
i just has car in shop for tuneup last week and he said to call should the idiot light come on
do you think 2 much driving in the heat or are these avg temps
thanks
after pulling over and turning car off- the service engine light went out...that pulling up a code looks real complicated to a newbie--let me take it for a spin and see what i get i'll post back
Turn ignition switch to OFF position
Locate Data Link Connector (DLC),
Jumper the A&B terminals(a paper clip or a jumper wire work ok) in the shape of a U
Turn Ignition switch to ON position.
Count the flashes on the "CHECK ENGINE" or "SERVICE ENGINE" light.
FLASH, pause, FLASH, FLASH = code 12
That must be a '96. Those darn OBD IIs will measure EVERYTHING including your PERSONAL gas pressure. That might be pretty warm for fuel, I've never checked mine. I didn't realize the later cars had a fuel pressure gauge, either. The water temp looks great. Pull the codes and follow the trouble shooting charts in your FSM, otherwise you are going to end up throwing money at it, needlessly.

Was the light on at anytime recently prior to the tune-up? The reason I ask is because I find it odd that the tech would have said to call if the light comes on. It makes me wonder if he may have damaged a connector or something else while working on it (easy to do when plastic get old and brittle) and patched it up hoping for the best. I had quite a few that had been boogered up but lucked onto a low-mileage harness, which allowed me to make some good repairs while doing the engine change recently.

I think the majority of us were a little nervous when we first pulled codes. It's really no big deal, and you need to check and see if a code was thrown.
