I know this is way off topic for this section but I thought maybe some OBDII types may be able to help.
I was driving along in my 1999 Blazer minding my own business when the Service Engine Soon light came on. Everything seemed fine though. It wasn't running rough or sluggish, the guages (such as they are) all read normal and the exhaust smells normal. Seeing as I was basically in the middle of nowhere I continued on my journey. 125 miles later the light is still on and all seems normal. Is it true that there is no way to jumper the ALDL plug to read codes on an OBDII vehicle and I'm basically stuck with having to take it to a shop?
Any hints as to anything I can look at myself tomorrow would be great. I'm reasonably handy around a motor.
TIA
PS - I did check the gas cap. It isn't the culprit. :( That would've been much too easy.

Re: [OT HELP] 1999 Blazer - OBDII (Scott 89)
Yeah, need a scanner as far as I know. I would give it a few start / run / off cycles before I worried about it. Lot's of OBDII codes, some very minor and can reset if not repeated. Otherwise, time to find somebody with a scanner.
Do I remember that you are in NJ Scott? I'm in Westfield and have a cheap scanner that will read OBDII codes. For some bizarre reason I'm around for the next few days. Let me know if you need the scanner.
Thanks, Pete. Yep, I'm in NJ and I even work in Murray Hill which would be great if I were going to be around there this weekend. Unfortunately I'll be heading to Burlington, NJ in a bit today. And tomorrow the closest I'll get to you is Livingston in the morning. But thanks for the offer.
