Bluedevil99,
$92 is a great price if they are changing all the fliud and filter. As you said watch them close. A lot of their guys are good, some of the new ones may not know how to open the hood. Good Luck!
Not a true flush. You can do it yourself if it's a drain and fill, but not a true flush. Flush is quite a bit different and requires different equipment.
And yes, I'd do it, but...
As to the smell of the trans fluid, that is not good. You can do the flush and fill but if I were you, I'd get prepared for something "more". I hope I'm wrong. Other, trans specialists will chime in I'm sure. Matter of fact, some trans people suggest that once the fluid starts going south on you, leave it and hope.
Mileage, year of car, last time flushed would help, too.
Yep... I won't touch one that the fluid's burnt up in.. the transmission's already been neglected to the failure point, and the clutch material floating in the burnt fluid will be removed when servicing. Once that happens, the transmission "all of a sudden" starts shifting strangely, slipping, etc. Better to wait till it fails completely at this point.
I'm not an advocate of transmission flushing myself, unless the filter is replaced (90% of the "flush" services don't replace the filter). Having the monkeys at a tire store (Firestone is a tire store) or a quick lube place do this work is foolish. Most of the "techs" (overused term) there are either cherrys just getting started and inexperienced, or hacks that have been thrown out of every other shop in the area and it's the last stop before Burger King for them. Better to find a reputable shop that'll be honest and upfront with you, and if you find one, stick with them!
No, but only cause I didn't get the chance! I would NEVER take one of my cars to one of those places, but I spent the weekend helping a co-worker replace the oil pan on his mini van (NOT a very relaxing way to spend the weekend, by the way!), and I would have if I had had the chance! I replaced the oil pans on more than one Mercedes when I worked there for the same reason.
as it turned out I needed quite a bit of stuff done. I realized I needed some of it but not the extent.
Dropped 700 bucks getting my rear brakes replaced, brakes flushed, coolant flushed, and alignment fixed.
Im beginning to suspect my guel gauge doesnt work as well..
My "Guel" gauge doesn't work either, in fact I can't even find it! Just kidding, but my fuel gauge definitly sdoesn't work right, and it's acommon problem on these cars. Do a search on it and you'll find plenty of helpful hints on this site. $700. may end up seeming like pocket change if you take it in for someone to start chasing an electrical gremlin! They tend to charge flat rate by the hour for this kinda work!
Experience? Many times when you take the Vette in, the person doing the job has about the same experience as you do. IMHO.
Often less, but they have access to that "special tool" that costs umpteen dollars. Problem is they have never used the tool so they get to learn on your car. Then the "pro" goes home and his helper finishes up. That's when the real damage to your car begins.
PS: No offense to the many great tech's that are on the forum. I just wish one was working near me.

Not only do I agree with Racer, I agree with the above, too. And I hope that $700 wasn't "dropped" at a JLube. BTW, do you know what coolant they put in your car, green or orange, and what it's supposed to be?

No it wasnt at jiffy lube, it was at a firestone. And Im not sure on the coolant I will check with that a bit later.
