EGR temp switch question 86' L98
My car recently had a very rough idle and would develop a loud whistle above 165 degrees of coolant temp. The hotter the engine got the louder the whistle would get. By 200 degrees, you didn't want to put your head near the engine with the hood up.
Yesterday, I saw that the EGR temp switch had come disconnected at the connection behind the distributor. I plugged it back up (and also pulled the plenum to plug in the IAT sensor that I forgot to plug in the last time I was in there) and the problem has seemed to gone away. The IAT sensor was plugged in eariler and I still had the whistle and rough idle, so I think the ERG temp switch is the cause.
Can anybody tell me why a disconnected EGR temp switch would cause a horrible idle and super loud whistle above 165 degrees?
