Default Optima battery

My 96 needs a new battery. Has anyone installed an Optima in a 96 and if so were there any clearance problems with the top post? Also, what model # did you use.

Thanks

Yes, I bought and installed a Red top Optima the beginning of last year.
The Cruise control bracket hit the positive top post of the battery. And a small peice of the plastic casing of the batt. would not fit perfectly into the tray.
I grinded the cruise control bracket slightly and put a peice of vacuum hose (cut a slit on one side of the hose) on the bracket I just trimmed. I did not want to cut the top post off the battery because it would void the warranty!
The plastic casing was not a big deal I actually tightened the battery down a little at a time and the plastic formed around the tray.
Hope this helps!
PS I have had No Problems with the battery. I do charge it with a Battery Tender During Winter Months in New England.

Cutting off the top post renders the battery inoperative. Ask me how I know!

Cutting a little off the cruise control bracket is the way to go.

Also, the two plastic pieces in the outer edge of the tray can be trimmed with a side cutter. They come right out.

My Red Top has been performing flawlessly.

75/25 should be the one!

I installed an Red top Optima (model 34/78) in my 96 LT1 with no problems. Been a daily driver for almost two years now.

I went with a camaro battery to save a few lbs, no problems with it and I also have a pulley set. Planning on going even smaller next time.
