Default 91 intake manafold gaskets

I pulled the intake off my 91 vette to replace the gaskets. Please help here,The new gasket set came with rubber gaskets for the front and back valley .When I pulled the manifold it did not have these .Should I use the rubber gaskets and silicone,or should I just use hi temp silicone?
Thanks for any help,
Randall

I did my 91 this past winter, and I just used the sealant that came with the gaskets which were Felpro. It helps to let it set up for a day or two. How many miles are on the car?? You might want to consider a couple other things while you are in there such as hoses, water pump, etc.

Has 65,000 miles ,replaceing thermastate, egr, injectors, all vacuum hoses, and tensioner pulley. the water pump looks and works ok,but maybe I should replace it too since I'm there.Just replaced the S belt.

No don't use the S shaped gaskets for the front and back. Just use The Right Stuff sealant.

A quarter inch ribbon of rtv on the front and rear, with a little on the water jackets to both seal them and to hold them in place.

Just use 3/16" bead of the RTV sealant on the front and rear of the manifold mating surface and all should be good.

As posted, forget the seals, but the '91 was designed for a unique intake gasket (used on ZZ4 and current production 113's). Heads are counterbored for gasket retainers which hold the gasket in place when you install the manifold. This was a redesign to stop the leaks that were so commonplace on everything that came before it. As far as I know, they're still available through your dealer or a GM Performance Parts Supplier like Scoggins Dickey or an aftermarket specialist like Street and Performance. You don't have to use them, but they're a nice bonus and I recommend you consider them because they keep the gaskets in place. If you do get them, make sure you specify they're for a Vette and not the F-Body or the ZZ4. Latter doesn't include the built in coolant restrictors which were used on the Vette.

I agree. (I would suggest "O2 sensor safe" rated Permatex)
