Hi
I just went to use my 86 Corvette and both power windows wont go down. They worked fine just a few days ago! I checked the circuit breaker and it is fine. When I try and activate both windows I can hear a slight clicking in the doors, but no action. What am I missing here? Can both motors be shot at the exact same time? Is there a common ground?
Thank you!
could possably be the plastic gear tracks that make them work.try puting a little down presser on the glass and have someone hit the switch. {assuming the windows are up}if they catch and move you have a bad spot in that cheap ribbon like gear strip. good luck

yup both sides!
like I say i hear a clicking in the doors when I go up and down on the switches. I dont think there is a relay in the doors is there? Is the clicking sound I hear the motor? I will try and get a helper to push down on the glass. Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the power windows? I wonder where they ground. I know ground issues can be a problem on these cars. All help appreciated......sure is hot with the windows up!!
Thanx
i believe there is only two wires to the motor that unplug there.one would possably be ground and the other power.u might try a jumperwire to help trouble shoot.the clicking sound from both sides is odd indead.
If you are hearing a clicking when hitting the switch it probably is broken ribbons. They have a common power source and ground. I'm referencing a diagram from my 84 but I think the 86 was the same. The later 86 models had the upgraded regulator which you could have also and then the ribbon theory is void. The ribbons get brittle with age and break very easily. I have had to change my drivers side. The pass side already has an upgraded gear type regulator and works much faster and smoother. The common ground is labled G101 and is referenced in my diagram to see instrument panel. Unfortunateley I don't have that diagram. I would assume the ground is behind the dash. For the windows to be making any sound at all when moving the switch would tell me that power and ground are good or nothing would happen at all. It does seem odd they would both quit working. I would pull the panel off one door and check the ribbon. Good luck
