i think my engine might need some help and i am thinking over my options.
i have some Q's though
is the iron head 86 1pc rear seal or 2 pc?
is it cost effective to rebuild the engine, or is it worth it to buy a zz4?
i would do all tear down/assembly myself if i went the rebuild route. and have the machine work done?
the engine has been overheated (badly)
1.All 86 are 1-piece
2.Its up to you, the ZZ4 is a good replacement, but it wont make the rated power once you put the TPI intake on it, and it will want a chip made for it. It'll still make more power than the 86's engine though.
Start pricing your parts up and see which way will end up best.
A hundred years ago, when I dealt with them, Jasper did outstanding work. Their rebuilds were top notch. When you bought a crank kit from them it came with chamfered oil holes and was micro polished. Like I said, it's been a while. No telling what has happened without Alvin.
Crate motors can be great, but EXPENSIVE. If you have the time and a good machine shop near by. It will cost a lot less to do it yourself. I dont have a lot of faith in the machine shops around here, so I do as much as possible to avoid them. Like, it may be better to buy new heads than have old ones fixed.
