My wipers have started acting up, I put them on intermittent and after about 7-10 minutes, they come on full time. I turn the switch to OFF and they just keep on going. After about 4 minutes they will finally shut off.
Actually, it sounds like a problem with the circuit board in the Cover over the motor. The motor itself must be OK - it runs, and that's all that it has to do. The door Switch itself is OK - it goes on and off, and that's about all It does. The other two components are the Cover - containing the circuit card and electronics, and the Park switch, located in the motor also. Both the cover and the park switch can be replaced separately and without spending the money for the motor itself.
The Helms book has the troubleshooting proceedure to narrow this down - but My personal experience with a similar problem on my '85 (wipers not wanting to shut off after using intermittent, intermittent delay timing going wacky), is that the cover/circuit board is dying.
I believe that chevy had a recall on the circut board that controls the intermittent wiper function at least they did on my 97 chevy tahoe. you might go to cars.com or one of the other sites for gm and look it up.. good luck
