I removed my EGR, even that ugly tube on the right engine side.
No codes no wories. Engine lookd much better with that tube off. But my is MAF 1988, yours is speed density. So till MAF it works well. Try first blinding that vacum line to EGR (make sure EGR is in off position before you do that!) And next drive some days/ miles. If all will work, when remove that tube off!!!
EGR help reduce NOx from emission, so if you wories about that think twice!
I am not worry, so...

it should work. if the L98 is the same as the LT1, it's a backpressure vacuum EGR system, which means there is an electromagnetic valve actuated by the ECM that applies a vacuum from the intake manifold to the EGR valve diaphragm (so there are actually two valves in a backpressure EGR system). i think these systems USUALLY do not have any sort of diagnostic. in my 92 manual i cannot find any codes directly related to the EGR solenoid.
fyi, disconnecting a system that uses a only one electromagnetic valve like your IAC solenoid, directly mounted between an exhaust and intake passage, will set off a code.
