I was inspecting the 99 Grand Prix that we just bought and noticed that the front air damn was loose on the driver's side. Upon further inspection, I noticed one of the fasteners were missing. More importantly, the fasteners were not screws but springs. The air damn is held on with two pairs of springs, in which the ends are hooked together. This way, when the air damn hits something, instead of the air dam breaking, the air damn folds from the springs giving way and snaps back into place. Sounds like a worthwhile modification to do on a vette air damn if it'll work.
I have a 98 GTP and the Air Dam really does work well. Its a pain to bend when working around it (LIke installing a tranny cooler) bit it has served its purposes well. The main problem with the vette is you could only use this type of modification on the center part of the air dam, yet it would still save some $$ in the long run and prevent a breakage.
Romeo,
Sounds like a good idea to me, although I still have much bigger fish to fry before I worry about the front air dam (as I bet you do too). At least I finally got it running again! :D Think U-joints are next, after I get the O/D section working properly!
Phil
I probably will try it, although right now getting the OD part of my tranny fixed is top priority right now. And I agree with ya Nat, unless you severly modified the side sections.
Vinny, thanks for reminding me, I'll probably call Brian tommorow and ask him about converting my valvebody to the newer style (non TV cable) so that way I can use the newer housing and not have to screw with the old one which has a frozen plug in it.
