I just relocated my MAT sensor for $5 instead of $40. I removed the MAT sensor from the bottom of my plenum and inserted a plug in the hole. Then I cut the connector off of the wiring harness (I left about 3 inches of wire on the connector) and spliced in two 5foot sections of 18 gauge wire (soldered them together, not splices) and resoldered the connector to the other ends of the new wires. Make sure the same color wires are connected to each other. I bought a rubber grommet, that the sensor can snugly fit into, at Advanced Auto, as well as the wire, for $5. Drill a hole big enough to fit the grommet into, in the plastic filter housing, beside the acordian air tube hole. Put in the gromet and insert the MAT sensor and plug in the connector. Save yourself $30. I thought some of you might like to know this. Hope it helps.
I havn't even started the car since the mod. I also ported my plenum and am waiting to receive my large tube runner gaskets before I can start it. :smash:
Did you happen to save the package with part #'s for the plug and fitting from Advanced. There's an Adavanced Auto just up the street from me and I'd love to try this myself, too.
Before too many of you go too far,... Most (through 89) L98's use a 165 ECM, and the 165 ECM only uses the MAT signal to control the EGR valve. i.e. It is only for emissions - no performance increase (I know from experiance). The later ECM's use it for spark and fuel calculations.
My info show's the 165 ECM on 86-89 Vette's. 90-91 has a 727 ECM.
If you want, you can send me your $40 or $5, and I'll tell you your going faster!
Jcygan, Yes I do have the part numbers. The grommet is the HELP brand, pn#42329, PCV grommet for Honda. The wire I used was red 18 gauge copper primary wire. I used the plug out of the drivers side of my block which I removed to install my low temp fan switch. As for ZylaRace, you misspelled experience.
