Default Pulling The Engine And Tranny At Same Time

Hey guys, I have decided to remove the engine and tranny at the same time so I can paint and do a few things, like freeze plugs and the like, on a 1984 corvette, are there any tricks or short cuts or things I should watch out for on a vette? the last engine removal I did was on a 79 trans am, this is my first vette lol, any info would help thanx.

to do that, you have to remove the hood. There is no space to do it otherwise.

BTW, they are not freeze plugs... they are simply the holes used for casting. Just being ****.

Do you have the factory service manual? Get it.

I rould replace every seal on that engine... and consider doing some bolt-ons, too, unless NCRS stock is your goal. If so, ignore me.

To pull the Motor and Tranny togeather, the hood must be removed. I have done it this way on my old Irocz setup. Actually it is much easier to do it this way.

I've always found it easier to remove them seperately. You don't have to remove the hood and the radiator box. Oh, and you might want to remove the wiper motor, the black pastic cover tends to get broken.

funny you should mention the wiper motor fred, I just got this car, and the motor has been changed, and you guessed it, the wiper motor and cover are busted, was wondering how that happened, lol
but whoever installed this motor was abdulah the butcher, nothing is painted nice or anything, so... i have alot to do, I was planning on removing the hood, radiator, etc, so nothing gets scratched or broken,
just wanted to avoid any unseen probs like, the wiper motor!!!

I just pulled mine in my 84 the other day. (LS1 swap) Anyway just take off the hood and go from there. I used a cherry picker and it was a PITA. If you can, use a set of good come alongs and an "I" beam in the ceiling. That way you’re not messing with getting the legs of a cherry picker under the car. I didn't pull anything other then the hood off the car. I left radiator stuff and wiper stuff.

Good luck

What made using a cherry pic a Pain? Was lift clearance? Did you place the cherry pick up front?

I just want to hear more, because I am also planning on using a cherry pick to pull the engine and ZF6 at once.

Maybe he was in the same situation I am and doesn't have a garage OR a paved driveway.

I had to improvise and use pieces of giant particle board for my shop crane to actually have a surface to roll around on. Some of us are severely low tech.
