I have scratches in my passanger window and I thought it would be from the
rollers inside the door and was then told it comes from the outside trim moulding. Can anyone shed some light on this issue. I am going to replace the glass, but not until I fix the problem. What is the fix is the problem. Thanks in advance.
inside the door there are pads which push against the glass to keep it in the right place as it slides.. if these pads wear out, it'll begin scratching the glass. i would look there for the source of your problem..
also, you can polish your existing glass to remove the scratches completely..
unless they're extremely deep or something, it should look good as new when you're done!
The problem is.....if you drive a C4 in the rain, dirt gets trapped in the weatherstripping. Causing the scratches:( I had GM replace my inside and outside weatherstripping 4 times. Until I(ME) finally found the problem. The car does not get driving in the rain anymore....No scratches:D
The scatches are on the outside of the glass....therefore they could not be from the window supports w/felt on the inside of the glass.
Hope this Helps
Oh yeah.....this happens mainly around the side mirrors. Where dirty rain water channels over the mirrors into the weatherstripping building up grit which causes the scatching:( If you replace everything glass, stripping, etc. If driven in the rain over time it will happen again.:(
Most.. if not all C4 suffers from this problem. :smash:

Re: Scratches in passanger window (Zora)
I do not wish to provide confusing information, but this is what I have found.
Inside the door, a few inches in front of and below the mirror is a steel brace. The factory placed a piece of plastic (polyethlene plastic I think) to keep the glass from rubbing on the brace as it roles down. But, road dirt (small rock chips) get wedged between the plastic and the glass resulting in the scratches. I cleaned mine off and added a piece of Velco loop to the plastic to hopefully keep rock chips away from the glass. I try not to roll down my windows much anymore.
The scratches I have are near the pillar about 2" from the door opening and I can feel them in the glass and the local glass company told me that you can
not polish anything out that can be felt. These seem pretty deep from dirt, but it could be, I just thought more like a metal scrape.
These exterior scratches are caused by the pads on weather stripping wearing out and then the window comes in contact with the metal plate that is behind the pad.
I just (yesterday) replaced both outside weather strips and the scratches on the window line up perfectly with were these pads used to be.
Used weather stripping from Corvette Rubber. Excel pieces, just like the orginal.
Go to an auto glass shop and buy some Cerium Oxide (fine polish) to polish out fine scratches. Don't bother if the scratches are deep, replace the glass in this case.
