Default Best C4 for the strip?

Contemplating a C4 that I can configure for the stip.

Have aspirations of installing a big-bock, with a solid axle, auto etc.

Is there a preferred year C4 for modifying into a serious strip racer?

All opinions welcome.

The cheapest and lightest car, an 84 or 85. This assumes you will gut the interior and throw away the motor and transmission as part of your build.

No sense in buthering a perfectly good L98, Lt1, LT4 or LT5.. I would say a '84 is the ideal year.. plus I think they all had dana 44's and are pretty light!

I think it was the other way around, the '84s all had Dana 36s. Not positive though.

84 would be ideal due to lower cost, but no 84 had the Dana 44. Wouldn't matter for what the OP wants to build anyway though.

The 84 would be my vote. All 84's had a dana 36 but it doesn't matter with your plans. You can buy a nice clean 84 for cheap.

84-85 since there wasn't any ABS, it's one less thing to worry about.

If you are going full blown, any wrecked vette is a good candidate, but if you are doing a gradual build, any non wrecked vette would suffice.

If you go with an earlier car that hasnt been parted out or wrecked, you will probably want to switch its rear spring out for a softer one.

I would start with a 85. Remove the ac system and what ever you will never use, need the space for the hair dryer and related pipings. Replace the motor with a built one 383ci or 401ci motor and fitted with a 91.5mm turbo and an aftermarket engine management. And spent a lot of $ to beef up the rear end, suspension, you set to go out racing..... This combo will beat the Big Block N/A setup to death.
