Default A-Pillar Install Questions

Iam getting ready to replace my A-Pillar WS and have a few questions after reading the many good postings here.

1. There is mention of a "thumb grade sealer" and two 3M part numbers have been given, 08509 Bedding and Glazing compound and 08578 Strip Caulk, the first appears to come in a tube and the second comes in strips. Are they both useable for this task? Any preferences?

2. There has been mention of two sided tape and the GM material references "foam tape." I have found a 3M 06384 Automotive Acrylic Plus Attachement tape that is descr9bed as an .045 thick medium density foam tape and it comes in black or white and 1/2 or 7/8 wide. Anyone use this?

3. Plastic retainers, someone else also asked this question, I am under the impression that the ones in the car can be reused at least once, is this the case?

Thanks

I used 3m WS adhesive, it comes in a tube.
You can reuse the clips if you are careful.
Before putting the adhesive on, put the WS in place to make sure it fits properly, also if you have a digital camera or poloroid, take pictures for reference, take your time!!!!!!
More people have screwed up on this piece, it is the hardest to get right. 1/4 in. off and you will not like driving in the rain(ask me how I know).

Never used the tape, so I cannot help you there. GOOD LUCK!!

I finished my WS yesterday. I used the 3M Super WS Adhesive / Black, nothing more. Most install tips I read said not to use adhesive inside the rail across the top, or down the sides. It is only to be used at the lower ends and the corners. I did run a short thin bead at the top center for about 5 inches just to have some attachment in the middle portion. I used a tongue depresser to install the rear edge of the WS after I seated the front edge as I worked my way to bothe ends.

At first, I didn't use any solvent to release the old WS, and it tore. I immediately changed over to a light spray of acetone in a spray bottle at the area that I was lifting. When I did this, the WS just lifted right off. I had very little cleaning to do.
