have a leak at the driver door at windshield. Took it in to Mike Boyles Corvettes in Archdale, NC. He charged me $75 to adjust the window......went and picked it up and 3 weeks later guess what it started raining, better yet it still leaked ,if not worse...took it back and he said that he's been working on vettes 21 years and that they all leak....is it true :mad
Bottom line...yes, they all leak to some degree. It shouldn't pour in, but there is usually at least some moisture at this joint.
I took my '88 into a dealership in Manhattan, KS...BIG MISTAKE!!! I had all of the weatherstripping replaced...the d_mn thing leaked *far* worse than when I took it there. I complained, they attempted to fix it...no solution. I complained to the manager of the dealership...however, my stay in Kansas was up...had to go back to Texas.
I just purchased a new roof panel (old one was warped) and had a new windshield and weatherstripping put in. I'm going to have a corvette specialist in Austin, TX fix it this time.
No they don't all leak. After I replaced the weatherstripping in my 86 I could spray it with the carwash wand it didnt leak. The same goes for my 96. It doesn't leak either. It's not always the seals fault when they leak. The seals behind moldings dryrot and water will get in behind the windshield and drip down on the speaker grill of older c4's.

Re: Leakless Vettes (RED90SIXLT1)
I'd have to back up RED90SIXLT1. No they don't all leak. But it is a problem that you can fix yourself. Use a garden hose and track the leak's down and attack each one. Take's some time. Sealed my 90 up nice.
I used to get soaked in mine every time it rained, then I learned that there is in fact a top in the back.
Honestly though, mine leaked like a sieve when I got it (even with the top up), I have been slowly fixing the leaks with black silicone and am making good progress, t has to RAIN for me to get any water in these days. In a month or two I should have it licked. Just take your time and be patient and fix them one at a time.
sorry to hear that but it does make me feel better that someone else has the same problems......its definitely not pouring in but its there...
Mine didn't leak until I took the top off. I think the previous owner had some sealer or something in there.
Now its a very slow drip, it doesn't bother me other than the fact that it didn't leak at all before I took the top off. Oh well, I'd rather have it leak than not have Targa capabilities.
mine turns into an aquarium and I become the fish when I get caught in the rain. drips in from both side windows and hits you right about mid thigh. kind of like chinese water torture. bought the dripguard things from ecklers but haven't had a chance to check them out...if I know it'll be raining I take the truck and stay dry. :cuss
Flip your top over and check the surface that mates up to the seals. Mine has (had) a coating like window tinting around the perimeter of the top, outside of the frame, but it had started to creep and was all wrinkled up. I cut it off carefully and that stopped 99% of my leaks. :yesnod:
"mine turns into an aquarium and I become the fish" LOL, same here, and I then replaced all my weather strip (talk about $$$)! Its better then before but still leaks a little. I have to open the Pass. door so the window will go up all the way to make a seal, then close the door, and the driver side drips a little when it rains hard where the A pillar touches the top. I'm in a dry part of Texas, but when it rains it rains.
Here is a good test if you think the car does not leak. Go through one of those Chevron or 66 gas station high pressure touchless washes. Just about every C4 owner I've asked spring a leak somewhere. Tried that once Then if you don't get one drop inside, thats one sealed vette!
I don't think the guy was pulling your leg. I sould say 8 out 10 C4s do leak. However he did take your money to "fix" it.
I'm with Tex on this one...he gladly took 75 bones from you before dispensing his advice...netting a :nono: for any reputable service there. Mine leaks about in the same place as Purp's...but I just haven't tried hard enough to stop it.
It takes a good windshield installer to put the weatherstripping around the windshield on a C4 without leaks. I haven't found one yet. After having the second company install the windshield (they both told me they could do it without leaking and it leaked for both), I used a hose to find the places it leaked and sealed it myself. It isn't hard to figure out, if you start at the bottom front corners of the windshield and work your way S-L-O-O-O-W-L-Y up to the point where it leaks and fix it. Then, work your way up from there. My leaks were always at the top corners where the weather stripping is not in the weather stripping channels. After sealing it, not a drop comes in.
The inside plastic moulding around the windshield acts like a ran gutter -- if anything leaks around the windshield, it is directed to the bottom and comes out over the speakers.
