I was approached today about a special project involving the construction of a corvette "supercar". This car would have modifications to many of its systems, i.e. suspension, fuel, engine, drivetrain, entertainment. The regional student advisor for gifted students is currently seeking grants for the project. This "honors seminar" is held in may and is a gathering of many students that have over the course of the year completed indidvidual projects. Last year i built a 2.25ghz home computer (feel free to ask about it). These students are responisble for finding their own funding and so we will probably not be eligible for the grants needed to purchase parts and supplies. The next course of action would be to seek out donations of parts etc from suppliers, manufacturers, or distributors. I believe this project can be a reality but i need suggestions from you to help on my way. When the project is complete national recognition of achievement is a certain thing. At the least The supercar project would be gauranteed airtime on news and other related programs.
How can i make this project appealing to potential sponsors? WIthout sponsors there can be no project and these gifted students will miss out on this fantastic oportunity. Any comments ideas or flames are welcome.
I will post more information as soon as it is available.
(p.s. i accidentally deleted the original post. this one is accordingly shorter and less informative :mad )
Since you posted here I assume the Vette will be a C4. Which vintage C4 is being considered, L98, LT1, etc?
You need to come with a top level plan for choice of vehicle, the intended result and the mods required. Itemize the publicity resources that will be covering this project. Develope a plan that shows the benefit to supporters of your project.
Contact the news agencies and consider Vette magazine, Corvette Fever, etc. Scan the vendors listed on this Forum and contact them along with some of your local Chevy dealers. Present your plan showing what is needed from each and what the vendor has to gain from supporting your effort.
and then contact me, i may be able to supply the car....how long will you need it, and will it still look like a vette when its done?????
if that would be a way to get my car done at no cost.....I'M IN!!!!!
oh yeah, and if you find any sponsors....let me know, i may be a gifted student and want to build my own supercar! :smash:

It is a 1992 coupe auto. With black rose paint and side pipes. 18,000 miles.
Tried to take a picture but there is too much water in the air for the flash to penetrate.
I hope i get lucky enough to have extra parts...and if anyone wants to help me put them on that would be great...as long as the parts are going on the above mentioned car.
It seems you have faith that i will be able to get parts donated to the project.
A few quick questions though. What would a company want besides advertising? How might i make it worth their time and money? Only thing i can think of are decals on the car. Then when the car gets media coverage and recognition they go along for the ride. I would hate to have to cover the car with decals but i dont know if i will have a choice. I have been trying to think of ways that this project will benefit those who donate to it. all i can come up is advertising, good will, tax write off. any other ideas. I should have a preliminary plan written up by tomorow if you are interested. Your input and free thinking is greatly needed and appreciated.

Why? I bet it cost them close to a mililon bucks to put that thing together.
Sputnick, another guy kind of like you, he built a twin turbo Z28, He logged everything on his web page, eventually he picked up a few sponsers. Dont remember if they gave a discount or what... http://www.skulte.com
Check it out and see what he did. A lot of the links are dead now because it has been a long while, but he updated all the time, and eventually he got peoples interest. I think the key was his frequent updates. He may of went out of his way to make himself know as well.
