Putting a new hub assembly on the LR...we have it 90% on but can't squeeze the addt'l 1/4 inch to get it all on...we greased it and all...what should I use?
Are you trying to put the hub on with the half shaft still in? You should unspring the suspension, disconnect selected suspension parts, remove the half shaft, then take the hub out. (see the GM manual if you have one, as you a puting stuff back together and don't have a manual get a hayes at autozone this will help.) Make sure that the carriage is clean, that the old washer on the inside was removed and replaced with new.
That thread is pretty much the way I did it, many years before that was written. That thread isn't wrong, but apparently it didn't work for you, for one reason or another. I have changed several rear wheel bearing/hub assemblies in my car without most of the disassembly outlined in the FSM. I see you finally got it done.
Just to clarify...I didn't think the thread was wrong...the rfirst person to reply to my original post stated that the half shaft should've been removed along with some other suspension parts...otherwise the thread was great for me.

The first person to reply to your original post, polo91cnvt, echoed the FSM, which includes removing the half shaft. The thread you followed written by cuisinartvette does not involve removing the half shaft which is the way I've done it several times.

If you "didn't think the thread was wrong", why did you reply with?

As I said in my previous post, "That thread isn't wrong, but apparently it didn't work for you, for one reason or another."
I was saying apparently the thread was wrong because of the first reply to my post...not because it didn't work for me because it did work great...just ran into the usual pitfalls. I was being sarcastic with regard to the first reply to my post! Hope this makes sense now.
