which chip is best? mods?
I just bought an 86 coupe and am wondering which performance chip is best and what modifications i can do to get her to 300hp quickly. Im in college now so i'm on a tight budget, if yall could tell me how much the mods cost you i'd really appreciate it, thanks

Well 300 HP on tight budget is a tall order, especially if you have the early iron heads. If so you would likely need after market Al heads to get there on the motor.
Check out my site for mods that have gotten me to about 300 HP at the crank; notice that I hadn't installed an aftermarket chip yet. Also you've got mail that may be helpful.
You could always go with a 100 shot for the quick path.

Don't waste your money on a chip. You're not going to get 300hp on a stock engine with any chip. I think the 86's were rated at 240hp? The easiest(but probably not the safest) way would be nitrous. To get the HP you want the best way would be heads and a cam, but that will cost money. All these bolt-on's will give you some more hp, but probably not as much as you're looking for. 2 questions for you though:
1) Why 300 hp? What's so magical about 300
2) Is your car an auto or 4-speed?

i'm only shooting for 300HP because its a nice round number that i can get to, i dont want anything with 400+hp because its too easy for me to get tempted to run her fast and end up gettin killed, 300 lets me beat just about anything on the road (unmodifieds anyway).

How much is NOS on a vette? do you need a new (larger) hood? where do they put the tanks?
