Default LT1 Longtube Header comparison

I would like to see a thread as to what the Advantages and Disadvantages to the different longtube headers available are. Those such as TPIS, SW, EM, and Hooker. And although I can appreciate your enthusiasm and loyalty in those responses that go like "EM headers are the best!!! ", there really isnt any useable information in there. It would be great to see something listing pluses and minuses of them. Such as Brand X advantages= tube size, good quality, exhaust hookups availale etc etc. Disadvantages= Expensive, poor fit with automatic trans, long wait time, etc etc.
Anybody out there familiar enough with different brands to get something like this going? Does anybody care?
Thanks
Roy

Hey Roy, this has already been done........ Do you care to put the research in?

This is all for the LT-1:

Hedman = 1 5/8 ths, I'm told the will fit, They are the cheapest, No EGR/AIR, Always heard bad quality issues here.

Hooker 2151= 1 3/4 What I run on my LT-1, They fit with minor modifications, No EGR/AIR, Will need to be coated, Will need GOOD gaskets, No O2 sensor hole must be added, Cheapest route w/o sacrificing quality....

TPIS = 1 3/4, Will fit fine, Probably some minor modifications, Has hook-ups for EGR/AIR and O2 Sensor, probably come coated, more expensive than Hookers.

Exotic Muscle = 1 5/8 or 1 3/4, Fitment is excellent, Comes with all the bolts gaskets and coatings, Can be used with or w/o EGR/AIR, Expensive but nice

Stainless Works = 1 5/8, Comes in Stainless steel, Fitment is excellent, Expensive, Can be used with EGR/AIR, Definitly will be my next header, IMO Stainless is the way to go.

ALL LT-1 Longtubes will need custom exhaust work and Bullet Cats....

Feel free to add or correct everyone.......

Maybe we can start a copy/paste....

All you have to do is learn how to run a search and you can find out everyone's installation problems and decide for yourself.

dont forget about melrose- I have their headers on my lt4, and they fit perfect. They also sell a complete exhasut with x-pipe and converters to bolt up to the stock muffler section. Melroseheaders.com is the website.

Hey VR and Vader,
The problem is when you run a search for info on headers there has been so much discussion about it that there is way too much info to sort through and assimilate. There are tons of opinions going both ways on every header, and it is all broken up over hundreds of threads. I spent hours looking at it already.
What I did not find however was all of it together in a factual situation like I requested here. As I remember there was a sticky on thirdgen.org for years complete with a chart that compared camaro headers. Maybe there is something like this on the corvette forum somewhere, if so I didnt see it.
I think what would be excellent would be to take what VR started and have others add to and edit it so that there was one document that had tube sizes, dimensiions, and all of the pluses and minuses of these headers together in one place. Then since it is such a frequent question move it over to the tech FAQ where it can be easily accessed by the next person who has these same questions. As was suggested possibly do the same thing for the L98 choices.
So guys, I appreciate the info and the time you took answering the question but the condescending attitude regarding running searches is quite unneccessary.
Roy

What I'm saying is that you should run specific-termed searches on specific brands and in particular the installation of them. Only search thread titles and not posts within.

Then you'll see things like "I had a problem putting the Y-pipe in with brand X" or "I have issues with #7 plug rubbing".....those are the things you have to look for to decide between brands that you cant collect and throw into a sticky. Then you pick based on who had the fewest issues with fitment, because thats basically the main criteria between them. I've thought about posing questions like this but then I'd probably get bitched at for something like I usually do.

No one reads the FAQ anyway.
