Default big speed needs upgrades.. help me fast guys!

I know this might be better suited in tech, but I am looking for you guys here who are running the big speeds in the 1/4 mile... my car gets on up to about 160 in 5th pretty fargen fast.. my shocks as stated int he previous post are shot and I need to replace them as well as upgrade soem brake components.. so.. looking for an adjustable shock that can be changed for track use to help with launching but also that can be stiffened up for some high end road handling capabilities. I am also looking for some dependable brake rotor suggestions.. I want to save some money, but it is apparant that safety and control are now of very big concern to me and the car needs to be able to handle these speeds.. its fun to go fast but getting slowed down from 160mph.... its not the same as trying to stop from 100... there seems to be a large difference.. seems it accelerated faster then it slows down.. gets scary. so if it needs to be moved so be it, but I was hoping some of the FI brethren here could give some poiunters on whats worked well and stood the test of time with a pretty regular beating. thanks guys!

My car comes down from 210 mph with stock Corvette front brakes and cross-drilled rotors. The rear has Wilwood disc. The parachute is used when running the quarter mile, but not the eighth (164 trap). The stock Corvette brake system is very good when working properly and kept fresh.
By the way, since you're over 150 mph, you're required by NHRA to have a parachute anyway!
Has anyone ever mentioned that to you?

ha ha ha... NHRA is not sanctioned on the ahem.. test route I run on. the car doesn't run 150 at the track, but it does every once in a while when I get a wild hair on the test route I use to tune and test fixes and boost changes... but I was aware of the Parachute rule.. the day they tell me I need one I will smile for a month..lol

I have the J55 package with 13" rotors up front, but they have a nice lips on them and I am not big on turning rotors worn that much they like warping too easy as they get thin. I have a new set of EBC Green stuff brake pads but haven't settled on rotors yet.. vented are definately going to be the route I take, but brands that don't crack, hold up well and can handle their duty is what I would like. I was advised by a trusted friend that the cheapest pads that are non metallic work very well but require replacing frequently.. they dust more but are MUCH easier ont he rotors then metalic or semimetalic pads.. anyone concur with this or have similar experience?

and anyone on the shocks?

thanks guys and thanks 106mm.. I will keep gunning for that parachute.. maybe by then I will be in the 11's...lol

I have the drilled and slotted rotors up front on my 86.The ones I got have a minium of holes drilled in them.I pull over 135mph in the 1/4 and I have no problems stopping.
I have the Eldobrock shocks in the rear and they work for me.
Just a bit of wiggle at the big end.
Yes alot of break dust just clean it off.

Stopping fast almost costs as much as going fast. For light street use go to a C5 setup. For more serious stuff, Id check out Movit brakes.

Chris, glad to hear the car is coming along well. You should check in with the autocross/road race group. I believe that the J55 brakes are pretty good and that all you would really need to do is get some new stock rotors with some aggressive pads. This may not be the absolute best solution, but it would be on the cheap. Good luck!

I think after inspecting the suspension components this morning and really looking at everything I am going to go with the KYB shocks.. I have read all there is on them and know peoples views, but they should be..

1) better then the base bilsteins that came on the car when they were in perfect working order... ie a firmer ride which I want.

2) 1000% better then my completely leaked out and non functional base bilsteins which have 0 dampening ability anymore.. I did the bounce test.. and the results were.. bounce the rear oft he car 3-4 times hard and let go... my car keeps bouncing.. this is NO GOOD..they are shot.. front is the same way.

so KYB shocks are going on as well as a full energy suspension bushing kit and then august 12th I have an appointment with my alignment guru who does my alignments in his off time at the dealership with the best technology there is.. he is going to remove the shims and start from bone scratch to get the car dialed in perfect.. so with the newer tighter poly bushings, and the new shocks and an alignment that should be good with the geometry restored and held by the bushings I am hoping the car will have a totally new and good handling feel to it.

as for brakes.. I have a complete set of the EBC greenstuff brake pads that have been on the shelf for a year for this car waiting on some rotors to put them on with.. I thought about replacing with stock, but I really think the heat being generated by the huge stopping force pretty regularly needs to be able to vent all the gases and some drilled or slotted rotors would be better suited.. I saw there was a group purchase going on in the C4 forsale section but am waiting for it to be fullfilled to existing orders/customers and the outcome of how these rotors are performing. I will also have all 4 wheels rebalanced with the new drag radials installed out back, the front tires are Z rated Khumos with about 99% tread left.. they are 2 years old, but have not seen much driving and have been suspended so not flat spots.. figure with all of this I should have a solid car again that will feel better and be safer to drive with the new power.. then it is time to start saving for soem paint work.. the interior is still perfect.. I fixed all the rattles and the carpet is great.. seat are great with exception of the drivers side bolster.. so maybe see if someone can restitch a patch of leather on there.. and the car will look new under the hood, inside and out, paint, interior, and handle and ride wonderful at speed and have plenty of power on tap for all the fun driving.. then my project will be complete and I can direct my attention to the others in the fleet..

thanks guys!

I do not think this is accurate for the 2006 rules.
