I was under the car looking for an oil leak & I found that my transmission pan bolts were loose.
What are the torq specifications for these bolts?
Also, How can I tell if it is time to change the transmission fluid?
I bought the car 11,000 miles ago & the transmission was just rebuilt. I'm sure the fluid should be fine but it appears to be darker than it should to me.

If in doubt, change it. It's what, $5 of ATF?
ATF condition is the primary factor in AT longevity.
Not wanting to start a new thread. Should the average shade tree mechanic, try to drain the torque converter? I've drained the pan. New filter and gasket. Have a minor vibration under mild acceleration, at 65 to 70 mph. If I down shift, the vibration is not there under any acceration. I have a 92 LT1 a/t 82k. Thanks for any help. Good advice to read all sticky's. Thanks for a great forum, and any ideas. LBreen
There is no way to drain a converter while it is still in the car. They have a suck and fill machine at most dealerships and higher end trans shops. The suck and fill will allow you to change all od the fluid by cycling it through the trans.
Thank you for your help. Bought this car Feb 1st. Seemed like an ok car. Stored in winter. Older adults bought it from original owner, etc. Noticed when I got home, someone went off the road. Caved in a muffler a loose rear control arm. A few dents underneath. Smashed pipe after the cat.(not too bad). Replaced right rear bearing. A noise that turned out to be a tire rubbing against the inner fender. Measured wheel base and it was only a little more than an 1/8" off.( From left to right). Mechanic said ujoints are fine. The vibration at highway speed is what has me worried.(under easy acceleration).Goes away if you down shift. I'm 56 years old and take good care of my cars. I thought you might have some thoughts before I go throw money at it. Thank You . I see you and others are a great help to a lot of us in the forum community. Thanks for your earlier reply, Larry Breen
Just be careful with those tranny bolts. I pulled a homer yesterday and didn't pay attention to the inch pounds after the 91 in my haynes book and set my ft pounds wrench to 90. Yep, now my dumb *** is stuck with a snapped bolt, luckily non are stripped but I gotta get an easy out on this bolt and hope it comes out.
Lesson learned: Don't work on your car if your in a hurry.
