I'm assuming that you have enough horsepower to do the job, as the LT1 Vette's were supposedly able to run about 160 - 165 with a 300 HP engine. Since you have an engine with more HP than an LT1, then you should be OK.
I also used 25" as your tire diameter. You should actually measure the tire, and this calculation ignores tire diameter increase with increases in velocity (and it may not matter on the salt anyway due to the 10% slippage)
If you assume a 10% slippage, then you need to be going an indicated 165 MPH to just cross 150 MPH. An indicated 165 MPH translates to just over 6800 RPM in third (1:1), and just over 4800 RPM in OD (0.68:1).
What I can't answer is whether you have enough distance in the run to get the engine to that speed. We'd have to know more details about the HP/torque curve of your engine, and then take into account the increasing drag on the car as you accelerate up to max speed.
I hope what I provided at least gives you some help!
One of the guys in the GSRegisry had a photo posted of his GPS showing either an indicated or a top speed reached capture of 182 from his GS with the major modification to the LT4 being an aftermarket exhaust system (no headers). This would indicate that a C4 with roughly 300 rwhp should probably be capable of the 150mph on the salt. If I recall correctly this was at the Silver State Classic or another open road run. Good luck on your attempts.. Both the 150 and the 200 mph. Godspeed.
This is a good thread. I remember reading a while back how much rwhp it would take approx. for a c4 to reach 200mph. I thought it was 520rwhp approx, but I am not positive.
The C-4 makes the 130 mph club easily - 1 mile standing start - on
the salt (estimates are you loose 10 % to the salt - your wheels have
to be turning at over 140 mph to time out over 130).
The question is - will the C-4 have what it takes to make 150.
this is a 2 mile runup with the speed taken after the 2 miles.
Hey Carl not sure if this is important to you but speed week at the Bonniville Salt Flats starts Aug 12 thru Aug 18 . I have my plane tickets in hand will land in Salt Lake City on Aug 11 and be out at the Salt Flats on Aug 12th.
- a 4500 ft elevation (actually an advantage) and a density altitude that often exceeds 8000 ft .
carl Johansson
The altitude is not an advantage. The reduced power requirements of drag in 8000' DA air vs. dense sea level air, will be less than the power that will be lost by the engine breathing 8000' DA air vs. dense sea level air.
The last time I drag raced at sea level (in about 600' DA air, actually) my car ran 1 full second quicker than my best home track ET.
The power you lose, running at altitude, is more than the reduction of the power requirements.
well, might as well ask the boss... when you doing the race?
We do World of Speed - that is a much smaller meet than speedweek going on in a few weeks. WOS is very family oriented - I don't think Speed Week or other SCTA sanctioned events even have a 130 or 150 mph club.
World of speed is put on by Utah Salt Flats Racing Association - in the middle of sept - 13 - 16th this year - cooler temps and a much smaller group of racers makes it alot more fun.
here's their link http://www.saltflats.com/
you will see stuff for the 130 and150 mph clubs on the site.
You get to the Salt Lake Airport - I'll make sure you get out to the flats - and have a car to drive!
I do keep track of these guys and they have been helpfull to me. Right now I'm trying to get JeffyVettes Navigator to school me before the Sand Hills Open road race in a couple of weeks - I'll be driving 1 way - and navigating on the return leg!

Hey cajun, I wish I was out there for Speed Week - but I go to world of speed - sponsored by USFRA instead of SCTA - a much smaller more freindly meet - in mid Sept. During speedweek I will actually be in Nebraska running the Sand Hills Open road race.
Sorry I'll miss ya - if you want to come to World of Speed - I can hook you up!
Just so there is no misunderstanding, I remarked about the
mud flaps to draw attention to them. I hadn't noticed the
flaps at first and these just enhance how streetable the car
appears to be.
